The Galvatrons

Image

I've just written my first music review for the online component of Oyster Magazine. To read it you can click here. The Galvatrons are receiving some great word-of-mouth promotion and from close sources, they're a pretty awesome live act for a group of young guys riding on the back of a debut EP. I'm disappointed I missed my chance to see them a few weeks back at Streetkid at the Clock Hotel. Here's the clip for the EP's title track When We Were Kids:

Great Album Covers: Grace Jones

Over the next few months, I'm going to upload some of my most-liked album covers. You'll see plenty of artwork from my favourite designer Storm Thorgerson, but I'll start with a piece of cover art that is simple, strange, and grabs my attention with its clever photo editing.

Seals

Seals are pretty cool creatures. In fact, I once worked alongside two during my brief tenure at Sea World. I just hope their brothers and sisters back on Seal Island, South Africa are doing okay.

For more great filmmaking featuring seals, check out the family adventure Andre. The true story of how a marine seal named Andre befriended a little girl and her family.

Here's an excerpt from Roger Ebert's review on August 17, 1994:
Andre, meanwhile, turns out to be quite a seal. He goes through an obligatory health crisis early in the film, and the Whitneys can't figure out what's the matter with him. My theory: As a wild animal, Andre has gone into shock after finding himself living in a bathtub in the attic. After Andre recovers, he proves to be a fast learner, and is soon painting watercolors, blowing out the candles on his birthday cake, making raspberry noises at people he doesn't like, doing the Peppermint Twist, and tuning the television (favorite shows: "Lassie" and "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea").
The seal's favourite show is Lassie! Awesome.

Careful

So, I was thinking about that La Caution music video I posted a couple of days ago beneath the new Justice video. It's a pretty badass clip. But I'd still take these guys on as personal security any day of the week:

I'd just have to watch those itchy trigger fingers. This clip was banned from TV.

Kourtrajmé

Justice have released a video for their new single Stress. Romain Gavras of the French collective Kourtrajmé is the director. I wasn't familiar with his work before seeing this clip, but quickly identified obvious similarities to a video my French buddy Clement showed me early last year. That video was Bâtards de barbares by La Caution and directed by the very same Kourtrajmé collective of artists that includes Gavras and founding partner Kim Chapiron. Here's the new Justice clip and right below it, the super-extreme video for the Bâtards de barbares track that features in Chapiron's horror film Sheitan.
