LC-A+

I saw Santa Claus when I was about eight or nine. We've been on pretty good terms ever since. This is what he's getting me this year. Thanks fren.

Like the old D.O.P. I used to work for would say, "I'm gonna shoot the shit out of it."

Summer Begins

Summer begins tomorrow. It's already too hot. Who doesn't love it though, right? What's the greatest summer song of all time? I kinda like this one...

And here's how I best remember it from the third Die Hard film. Forget Bond. Forget Jason Bourne. John McClane will always be the man. Great film opening.

White Men Will Jump

Two-on-two basketball tournament this Saturday at Miami High School (2pm start). $20 entry fee. Winning team takes the kitty. No pros. No hustlin'. Wesley Snipes get-up encouraged. Shamone!!

BlakRoc Sessions.....

Here are the remaining BlakRoc videos. Gotta love Chef Raekwon in ep. 11. This album is one of the coolest sounding things I've heard all year. The collaboration works better than you would ever dream up on paper. I've been playing it on my stereo all day and I won't be taking it off for another month. Tracks "On the Vista", "Dollaz & Sense" and "What You Do To Me" are personal favourites. Go back and watch RZA at work in ep. 4. The man behind Wu-Tang. A genius.

All in the Hips

The Happy Gilmore golf swing has been ruled illegal in Canada. Described as "running from five to ten feet behind the ball and hitting it on the run," a Supreme Court judge from Nova Scotia ruled that the swing “breaches a duty of care” meaning the swing presents risks to the players that aren’t natural to the game. Looks like I won't be playing golf in Canadia no more.

In the Twilight Zone

I never thought I would post something on Twilight, but here it is. I haven't read the books. I watched the first film on DVD. It was decent. I haven't seen the second film, but I'm sure I'll check it out soon. Anyhow, to all those fans who are being teased for their obsession with these books/films... I completely sympathise with you. I think it's awesome you're so passionate about this story and I definitely see where you're coming from.

When Lord of the Rings was released in the theatres, it got me hook, line, and sinker. I bought the books. I read them all. I waited anxiously for the films, each released one year apart (on Boxing Day from memory). I had the one-sheet posters on my wall. I bought the soundtracks. I bought the DVD's. I bought the extended edition DVD's. And I still have a talking Gollum toy sitting on my bedside table. Here's the geek clincher. My parents bought me a book titled Lord of the Rings: Weapons and Warfare. It presents a full historical account of the War of the Ring. Nerd alert! Whatever. Middle Earth is rad. The stories and themes are timeless. This is a classic piece of literature, regardless of the dweeby fandom that comes with it.

I'm not embarrassed that I was a little nuts for Lord of the Rings. And I don't mind hearing all this hype for New Moon whatsoever. Even if it's overkill, it's making somebody happy. Stand up for yourself Twilight fans! Your friends will never experience the fulfillment of being swept away by an amazing story.

Ali Underwater

A great B&W photo sent to me from Bucko. Muhammad Ali.

Thank You Eric Cartman

"Do you have any idea what it's like? Everywhere I go, "Hey Cartman, you must like Family Guy, right?" "Hey, your sense of humor reminds me of Family Guy, Cartman." I am NOTHING like Family Guy! When I make jokes, they are inherent to a story! Deep, situational and emotional jokes based on what is relevant and has a POINT! Not just one interchangeable joke after another!"

MJ

Shrug. The greatest. I love NBA season.

More BlakRoc Sessions

Eps 2, 3 & 4. Mos. Jones. RZA.

Labyrinth Soundtrack

This is what I'm listening to on my iTunes right now. It's f***ing awesome!

The BlakRoc Sessions

This is episode 1 of 9. I might post a few of these through the week. Gives some good insight as to how this project is being put together.

BlakRoc

This is gonna be some collaboration. A rap-rock project spearheaded by the Black Keys and Damon Dash. On their upcoming BlakRoc LP, you'll hear the following special guests: Mos Def, RZA, Raekwon, Q-Tip, Ludacris, Pharoahe Monch, M.O.P.'s Billy Danze, Jim Jones, and the late Ol' Dirty Bastard. Here's the clip for the first single off the record - Ain't Nothing Like You (Hoochie Coo):

Last Stand (Backstage Footage)

This footage is interesting. Shot on Super 8mm film it looks like. I was playing around with some 8mm film earlier in the year with Chalmers. Gotta get my hands on a camera and shoot some stuff. HD video bores the shit outta me.

Last Stand

I would kill to have this image on my wall as a poster. There are a limited number of Last Stand posters still getting around, so if you see one, please buy it for me.

Dangerous Planes

Just watched a few videos on Music Max. A clip of Otis Redding's Try a Little Tenderness was playing. Redding died at age 26 when the private plane he was traveling in crashed into a Wisconsin lake. It got me thinking about how many great musicians have perished in planes. It's kinda spooky when you think about it. Here's a few of the big names:

RANDY RHOADS (The lead guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne)
AALIYAH
JOHN DENVER
STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN (a helicopter crash nevertheless)
RONNIE VAN ZANT + LYNYRD SKYNYRD
BUDDY HOLLY
RITCHIE VALENS
PATSY CLINE
GRAEME (SHIRLEY) STRACHAN (Skyhooks frontman died in a helicopter crash)

Do I post a picture now or a video or something? Meh. This is all I could think of.....

Australian Rage

Five great Australian songs in a row from this morning's Rage playlist:

THE FLOWERS We Can Get Together (Festival)
ICEHOUSE Great Southern Land (Festival)
AUSTRALIAN CRAWL Reckless (EMI)
COLD CHISEL Flame Trees (Warner)
INXS Don't Change (Warner)

I had no idea Icehouse were originally the Flowers. Hmm. But what a golden age for Aussie music. I often wish I had grown up during the height of pub rock. Even with all the great indie music coming out of Australia today, those pub rock years in the late 70s and 1980s were so definitive. Australia finally had its own rock sound, independent of the UK or America.

Who said our parents had it tough? Reckless still gives me goosebumps.

Cloud Control: Gold Canary

I don't even know why I'm posting this. I don't particularly love the song or anything. But when I got home from work early Saturday morning (around 2am), I turned on Rage and this is what I was confronted with. A crazy, tripped out video in the vein of MGMT or The Presets. I did some quick research (nerd!) and found out these four musicians are from the Blue Mountains; school friends, brother and sister.

Cuba!

One of the main reasons I'll be visiting Cuba next year. Hopefully I get just a taste of this while I'm there.....

Thom Yorke + Flea

Seems Them Crooked Vultures aren't the only supergroup to have formed lately. Thom Yorke and Flea have been playing a few live shows together (no moniker yet). Nothing original as far as I know. Just the old tracks from Yorke's solo material and some Radiohead B-sides. Really just makes me want the Chili Peppers to release a new album.

Juggernauts (Live at the Levi's/FADER Fort)

I really like the Midnight Juggernauts, but I'm not so sure about Vincent's voice on their new track. Here's a recent live clip of the Juggerz performing New Technology.

Ha Ha Ha

Urban Outfitters in the states are now selling fixed-gear bikes. Jesus! More douche bags on the roads. And now the fixed-gear community is up in arms too. Nobody wins.

The Killers vs La Roux

Smile Like You're Bulletproof? Have a listen to this remix by French mash-up dude Sugamoto.....

The Doors: The End (Live)

If you've got a spare thirteen minutes, here's a great live clip I found of the Doors performing my favourite all-time song The End. Filmed in Toronto in 1967. Take a look:

The Mayor of New York

Young Hov. $150 million net worth. Who gives a shit? The guy still raps better than anyone else out there. What I would give to see Jay-Z live in concert.....

Neckface Doco

A new documentary on the famed yet anonymous graffiti artist "Neckface" is currently in the works. Skate vid director Ty Evans says the film won't be coming out any time soon, even though he started filming back in 2005. Evans says:

"A lot has happened since then and there is a lot more to come. When I first started filming him I told him I want to film him for a long time span to capture his growth and everything that comes along with it. It is not coming out anytime soon. Maybe I’m half way? Maybe I’m just getting started? I have no clue. Neck is the illest guy out there and I’m psyched he picked me to tell his story."
Stay tuned.

Creepy film from David Lynch. Worth seeing if you haven't already.
