Laneway Review

Here's my brief Laneway Festival review.....

"Florence and The xx were awesome! The rest, not so much."

I don't wanna be a hater, but folk music and obscure bands with few (if any) hooks really ain't my thing. I think the kind of crowd this festival attracts are actually more stoked on the thought of knowing these obscure bands than the music itself. Let's be serious. These bands aren't good. They are sound musicians, but all they're really making is a whole bunch of noise (I'm looking at Warren Ellis from Dirty Three). At Laneway, Florence is headlining. At Coachella, she's bottom line stuff. Puts it in perspective I think. It needed to be treated more like a backyard jam than an actual festival.

Still, music's music, right? And alcohol makes the world spin round. It was cool for a Friday.

ps. Big middle finger to those who will claim that this was a "religious experience". Get a fuckin' life.
