The Hurt Locker. I finally had the chance to see this film last week and my immediate thought was that it's a solid film. Not amazing or ground-breaking, but solid. I really think Avatar was unlucky not to take the prize and in the years ahead, people will lament the Academy's decision. But the more I think back to the Hurt Locker, the more I hear Sanders & Beltrami's score, the more convinced I am that this film is still a worthy winner.
SPOILER
The first minute and a half of the following clip was the defining moment of this film for me. Out of context, it won't mean much. But Anthony Mackie's performance in this scene is something that I've been replaying over in my mind for a few days now. It's powerful stuff.
