Vice Guide to Liberia

Viceland Film (division of Vice Magazine) have created an eight-part doco series that takes us to Liberia and exposes the nightmarish aftermath of multiple civil wars. My friend Dale posted the first episode on his blog recently and after watching this late last night, my first thought waking up this morning was: I've just gotta see the remaining seven. Right now. This is eye-opening stuff. Stuff that Hollywood has given us a taste of in mainstream films like Blood Diamond and Lord of War. But the realism of actually following these Vice reporters/journalists on their journey through an impoverished West African capital city is more affecting to the senses than anything Hollywood could dish up. Liberia is a very dangerous place (on a level I did not understand prior to seeing this film). The fourth poorest country in the world. I say Vice are out of their minds for going there and delivering this story (which has since been condemned by the Liberian Government who consider the doco damaging to the image of the country). But I'm glad we are able to see this. Check out the first episode below and find your way to the rest of the series at VBS.TV.
